![]() ![]() This was a lot of work to pull off, particularly the regenerating shields. The former puts more emphasis on the player’s acquired combat abilities and resources, while the latter puts more emphasis on the player’s hacking abilities, no longer granting an instant victory to the player who saved 3 ICE breakers for the end. Not only is the boss more difficult to kill, but the shield regeneration resets the fight and forces the player to either shoot them down again or hack the CPU consoles again to shut them down. Rebalanced damage type vulnerabilities (now vulnerable to melee Energy and EMP are more effective incendiary and anti-personnel are less effective).Shields are regenerated when the boss is below 50% health.Shields now change color as they’re damaged.While I can’t do much about the level design, I did have some ideas for the final boss. Moreover, the final boss is a substantial disappointment, feeling undercooked and offering scant challenge. I generally dislike the final level of the game (not the Body of the Many, I love that as well as the Rickenbacker), as revisiting the starting area from the first game has no gameplay worth mentioning and it feels like a massively missed opportunity to have a mind-bending level in cyberspace spanning multiple slices of Citadel Station. The focus of this update was improving the final boss of the game. System Shock 2 – Rebalanced Skills and Disciplines 1.07 Much more to come in the next month or so, if all goes according to plan. However, between the last devblog and the present I released a major update for SS2-RSD, two updates for SS2 Scary Monsters, and three new SS2 mini-mods for which I haven’t written any development updates, so I felt it was worth documenting the work that’s already completed thus far. Most of this article was written 6 months ago in anticipation of the 1.08 version of SS2-RSD, which became its own monster of an update with a long beta period and is still awaiting release and promotion, as I plan for it to be the final version (for now). ![]()
